Rage Gene
While in combat Gnar generates Rage. At maximum Rage his next ability will transform him into Mega Gnar, granting increased survivability and access to new spells.
the Missing Link
Gnar is effectively two champions sharing one slot in the top lane. His Rage Gene passive builds Rage while he fights; at maximum Rage his next ability transforms him into Mega Gnar, trading agility for raw bulk and an entirely different set of spells. Managing this transformation cycle — and hiding your Rage bar’s timing from the enemy — is why he carries an 8 out of 10 difficulty rating despite a straightforward moment-to-moment game plan.
In Mini form, Gnar is a ranged harasser. Boomerang Throw damages and slows enemies and refunds cooldown when caught, Hyper stacks bonus damage and move speed through attacks and spells, and Hop lets him bounce off units’ heads to extend his escape or engage range. This form kites melee opponents relentlessly and wins extended lane trades that most fighters cannot answer.
Mega Gnar flips the script. Boulder Toss becomes a stopping projectile, Wallop smashes the ground to stun, Crunch turns his leap into an area slam, and GNAR! hurls everything around him in a chosen direction — enemies thrown into walls are stunned and take bonus damage. A well-timed transformation near terrain can lock down multiple carries and decide a teamfight on its own.
Gnar fits players who enjoy resource management and timing windows more than static combos: kiting patiently in Mini form, then engineering fights around the moment Mega arrives. His notable weakness is the same mechanic — when Rage is empty at the wrong moment, or Mega triggers with no fight available, he is stuck in the wrong form.
