Simplicity is Garen’s weapon. This manaless fighter-tank for top lane pairs a 7/7 attack-defense split with a kit that has almost no skillshots, making him one of the most reliable stat-check champions in the game. What he lacks in outplay potential he compensates with durability, sustain and an execute that ignores resistances entirely.

His laning is governed by Perseverance: if he avoids damage for a few seconds, he regenerates a percentage of his total health every second, letting him shrug off poke that would force other tops to recall. Decisive Strike gives him a burst of move speed, cleanses all slows, and turns his next attack into a bonus-damage silence — his primary trade opener and one of the better anti-mage tools in top lane. Courage passively grows his armor and magic resist with kills and can be activated for a shield with tenacity followed by lingering damage reduction, letting him absorb burst combos. Judgment, the iconic spin, deals continuous physical damage to everyone around him and does most of his sustained work in trades and waveclear.

Closing the deal

Demacian Justice is the point-and-click execute that defines him: it attempts to finish an enemy champion outright, punishing anyone who dives him or lingers at low health. The standard combo — Q to stick, E to shred, R to delete — is teachable in a single game.

Garen’s weaknesses are structural: no dash, no ranged tool, so disciplined kiting starves him. He suits newer players learning top lane fundamentals and veterans who value consistency — a champion that always does exactly what it promises.
