Vex occupies a unique niche among mid-lane mages: she is the designated anti-mobility pick, a control mage whose kit actively punishes the dashing assassins and skirmishers that normally terrorize immobile spellcasters. Her passive, Doom ‘n Gloom, periodically empowers her next basic ability to fear enemies and interrupt dashes, and whenever a nearby enemy dashes she marks them for bonus damage — meaning the more mobile the enemy team, the more often Vex gets paid.
Her spell rotation is compact and reliable. Mistral Bolt is a missile that accelerates mid-flight, making it deceptively hard to sidestep at range and her main poke and waveclear tool. Personal Space grants a shield while damaging enemies around her, giving her a built-in answer to divers who reach melee range. Looming Darkness lays down a zone that damages, slows, and applies Gloom, setting up her other spells and controlling chokepoints in teamfights. When the passive is loaded, any of these becomes a fear that stops engages cold.
The resets
Shadow Surge defines her tempo in fights: she fires a marking missile at a champion and can recast to dash to them for damage. In practice this makes Vex a burst mage with an execution dash, able to hop between low-health targets in a chaotic fight and clean up kills.
She offers a team dependable anti-dive insurance and area control, at the cost of modest range and limited escape once her ultimate is committed. Vex rewards players who enjoy counterpunching — waiting for the enemy to jump first, then making them regret it.
