Few top laners scale with player skill as steeply as Gangplank. Rated 9 out of 10 in difficulty, this melee fighter converts mechanical precision into some of the highest burst and gold income in the top lane, and his ultimate lets him influence the entire map without leaving his wave.

The heart of his kit is the interaction between Parrrley and Powder Keg. Parrrley is a point-and-click shot that plunders bonus gold for each unit it kills, giving Gangplank a built-in economic edge in lane. Powder Keg places a barrel at a target location; attacking it triggers an explosion that spreads the attack’s damage in an area and slows enemies caught inside. Skilled players chain barrels together, detonating one into the next for chunking area damage that ignores much of an opponent’s defensive itemization. Timing these detonations against alert enemies who can destroy the kegs first separates average and elite Gangplank play.

Trial by Fire adds a periodic burning strike to his melee attacks, rewarding short trades, while Remove Scurvy is his signature safety valve: he eats citrus to cleanse crowd control and restore health, letting him shrug off the lockdown that normally deletes squishy fighters. Cannon Barrage completes the package, calling his ship to bombard any area on the map with slowing, damaging cannonfire — used to secure objectives or turn distant fights.

Gangplank rewards patient, greedy players who enjoy scaling toward late-game teamfights where barrel chains and global ultimates decide everything. His weakness is an early game where missed barrels mean lost trades.
