Funahwi

Funahwi, known off the servers as Shou Oomura, is a retired Japanese jungler whose competitive path included time with SG Academy. Now 23 years old and no longer actively competing, he belongs to the cohort of players who passed through Japan’s developmental system, contributing to the grassroots pipeline that feeds the country’s top-flight rosters.

The Jungle Role

As a jungler, Funahwi occupied a position that demands a unique blend of independence and teamwork. Junglers forgo a traditional lane to roam the map, clearing neutral camps for experience and gold while looking for openings to gank lanes and secure objectives such as Dragon and Baron. The role hinges on efficient pathing, sharp map awareness, and the judgment to know when to farm, when to invade, and when to commit to a fight.

Playing within an academy environment sharpens exactly these fundamentals. Academy junglers are expected to internalize the discipline of camp timers and vision control while learning to coordinate with a roster still finding its identity. That grounding in the essentials is what makes the jungle such a formative role for developing talent.

An Academy Chapter and Beyond

SG Academy served as a training ground where prospects could hone their craft below the bright lights of the main stage. Time spent in such a setting is rarely wasted, even for players whose competitive careers ultimately conclude early.
