Varus vs Olaf Counter Pick

Ragnarok is the whole story. Olaf activates it to become immune to disables for as long as he keeps attacking, which turns Chain of Corruption — an immobilise that spreads between champions — into a spell with no effect at the moment it is needed most. Varus holds 40.7% across 167 games on patch 16.13.1.

Speed compounds the problem. Olaf moves at 350 base against 330 and can retrieve the axe from Undertow, which already reduces Armor and movement speed on the way through. Berserker Rage converts his own missing health into attack speed and lifesteal, so a half-finished kill accelerates him instead of stalling him, and Reckless Swing deals true damage that no defensive purchase reduces.

The reach advantage of 575 against 125 is real, and so are the tools for using it: charged Piercing Arrow shots, Blight applied by Blighted Quiver for his other abilities to detonate, and Hail of Arrows slowing the ground while cutting self healing. Against 645 health and 35 Armor growing to 2,668 and 106.4, though, that damage has to land uninterrupted for a long stretch, and Varus’ own 600 health and 24 Armor absorb very few swings.
