LP in League of Legends (League Points)

The visible points you gain and lose in ranked games.

Overview

LP — League Points — is the visible currency of the League of Legends ranked ladder. Winning a ranked game earns LP, losing one costs LP, and your total determines your position inside your current division. Reach the top of a division and you promote to the next one; run out at the bottom and you risk demotion. Through the standard tiers, from Iron to Diamond, LP is the step-by-step measure of your climb.

In the apex tiers — Master, Grandmaster and Challenger — LP matters even more: there are no divisions, so your LP total is your rank, compared directly against every other apex player in the region. How much LP a single game is worth is not a fixed public number; it is influenced by hidden matchmaking rating and can differ between players and change between seasons. The reliable rule is simple: winning consistently against appropriate opposition moves you up.

Because LP swings reward consistency, the practical way to protect your gains is preparation — strong meta picks from the tier list, current builds, and matchup knowledge from counters.

Play consistent roles One main role builds pattern recognition faster than filling every game.
Review your losses One avoidable death or skipped objective per game is often the whole climb.
